About the project
CityOn Shopping Center is a leading retail destination in Xi’an. For this project, we partnered with GreenGen to conduct a comprehensive energy audit aimed at enhancing the center’s sustainability.
About CityOn Xi’an
CityOn Xi’an combines modern design with functionality, creating a bright and welcoming shopping environment. The center houses over 300 retail stores, a six-level department store, a supermarket, and a lively food court. On the top level, visitors can enjoy a nine-screen IMAX cinema and a diverse range of restaurants, making it a complete destination for shopping, dining, and entertainment.
And our goal was to assess how this bright and welcoming atmosphere translates into energy performance.
Areas of Assessment
Our audit evaluated the performance of key building systems:
- Building envelope
- Lighting
- HVAC
- Controls
- Power generation
- Plumbing
- Indoor air quality (IAQ)
We also analyzed utility usage, covering costs, carbon emissions, and consumption of electricity, gas, and water.
Recommendations
Based on our findings, we developed a phased plan for energy efficiency improvements to ensure effective, cost-efficient upgrades over time.
- Phase I: Quick, low-impact measures focused on immediate savings through lighting enhancements, water efficiency, and basic controls.
- Phase II: More complex improvements requiring planning and design, targeting significant efficiency gains through HVAC upgrades, envelope improvements, energy recovery systems, and system optimization.
- Phase III: Advanced measures needing further analysis and feasibility studies to assess long-term benefits: renewable energy integration, advanced controls, and structural enhancements.
And to maximize impact, we performed a financial assessment of the recommended actions, estimating potential savings for each phase. This approach is designed to guide CityOn Xi’an toward its energy reduction goals in a balanced and structured manner.
